PARTICIPANT INITIATED
NON-RID ACTIVITIES (PINRAs)

Participant Initiated Non-RID Activities (PINRAs) allow interpreters to earn CEUs for educational experiences not offered by an RID-approved sponsor. They provide flexibility to pursue conferences, trainings, courses, and other learning opportunities that strengthen your interpreting practice.  These activities must:

  • Be provided by an organization with recognized standards in its field

  • Have a clear educational format

  • Include defined learning objectives

  • Demonstrate relevance to your interpreting practice

Examples of eligible PINRAs include:

  • Auditing a college course

  • Non-credit courses at educational institutions

  • Employer in-service trainings

  • Corporate or association workshops (e.g., ABA, teacher associations, social work organizations)

  • School district trainings

  • Conferences from other professions

Important:

  • You must apply for PINRA approval before attending the activity.

  • PINRAs cannot be used for sponsor-initiated or group activities.

How to Apply

GaRID requests that all PINRAs be submitted at least 10 days before the activity.

Step 1: Choose Your Activity

Select the workshop, course, conference, or training you plan to attend.
Your activity does not need to be interpreting-specific. It simply must offer meaningful learning that benefits you as a practitioner.
If it supports your professional growth, it may qualify for CEUs.

Examples:

  • Legal conference

  • Educational training

  • Corporate DEI training

  • College course

Step 2: Determine the Content Area

Identify whether the activity falls under:

  • Professional Studies (PS), or

  • General Studies (GS)

Not sure?
Select “Unsure” on the form—GaRID CMP will assess it for you.

CEU reminder:

  • 1.0 CEU = 10 contact hours

Step 3: Submit Your PINRA Application

Complete the online PINRA Application Form. Attach supporting materials such as:

  • Conference agenda

  • Course description

  • Schedule/program book

Before the activity begins, you must:

  • Submit the form

  • Attach documentation

  • Receive an approval email from GaRID CMP

You will receive a copy of your submission at the email you provide.

Processing time:
GaRID CMP responds within 1 week with approval, revision requests, or a request for additional information. If you don’t hear back within 7 days, email: CMP@GaRID.org.

Step 4: Verify Your Attendance

Once the activity is complete, submit proof of participation.

Documentation may include:

  • Proof of registration

  • Attendance verification

  • Conference completion certificate

  • Agenda showing hours attended

These documents are required for GaRID to award accurate CEUs.

Step 5: Pay Your PINRA Fee

Log into the GaRID Member Portal to complete your payment. Payment must be received before CEUs can be posted.
